Why Plano and McKinney Homeowners Clean Their Windows in Fall
The sun sits lower from October on, and it shows everything the summer left behind.
In this article
Stand in a Plano or McKinney living room around 4 p.m. in November and the sun tells you everything. The low light comes in sideways, and every streak, film and mineral spot that was invisible in August suddenly shows across the glass.
What the low autumn sun shows
From October on, the sun sits lower in the sky and hits windows at a sharper angle. Summer glare hides a lot. Fall light doesn't. Dust film, pollen residue, sprinkler overspray and the haze that builds on interior glass all stand out, especially on the large south- and west-facing windows common in newer Plano and McKinney homes. If your windows looked fine in July, this is often the first time you notice they weren't.
How to tell it's time
- Streaks or smears show when the sun is low
- White spots on the glass near sprinkler zones
- Haze on the inside of the glass in the morning light
- Dirty tracks and sills, or dusty screens
If you recognize two of these, your windows are ready for a professional visit.
Why hard water spots shouldn't wait
North Texas water carries plenty of minerals. When sprinklers hit glass and the sun bakes the water away, the minerals stay behind as white spots. Left through a season, light spots can begin to etch into the glass, and at that point regular cleaning no longer removes them. We explain how that happens in our guide to removing hard water stains before fall ends. The short version: the longer deposits sit, the harder they are to deal with, so fall is the time to act.
Both sides of the glass
Exterior cleaning gets the attention, but the inside of your windows collects its own film: cooking residue, HVAC dust, candle soot and fingerprints. In homes with tall entry windows and big living-room glass, the inside surface is the one you look at every day. A visit that covers both sides is what makes glass truly clear instead of clean on one side only.
Frames, sills and screens
Clear glass sits in frames, and frames collect dirt and mineral buildup in the tracks and on the sills. Screens trap dust that blows back inside every time a window opens. Cleaning glass without touching those leaves the job half done. Our window cleaning includes frame and sill restoration and screen cleaning, and we can replace damaged screens as part of the same visit.
What a visit looks like
We arrive in your scheduled window, clean each window inside and out, and finish with a final inspection so you can see the result before we leave. If you own a newer build, our post on why window cleaning matters in new construction homes explains why builder dust and residue make this even more worthwhile.
Get ahead of the holidays
From Thanksgiving through New Year's your home has more visitors than at any other time of year, and windows are the first thing guests see from the driveway. Booking in October or early November puts you ahead of the rush, and clean glass makes holiday lighting look sharper. Planning your own exterior checklist? Start with our guide to getting your home ready for holiday hosting season, and read what to ask a Christmas light installer before you hire one.
